With the National Minimum Wage (NMW) now almost fifteen years old, and with another increase pending on 1st April 2017 HMRC have issued a list of the most elaborate excuses they've been given by employers for not paying the appropriate rates:

Likely Changes to Flexible Working Rights

Alan Kitto

The outcomes of the Government’s 2021 consultation on flexible working legislation were published earlier today and we’re likely to see a number of changes to current legislation. The timescale for the changes is unclear, but employment law normally changes in April or October.

  1. The right to request flexible working from day one of employment; currently there’s a minimum service requirement of 26 weeks.

  2. Employees will be able to make two requests in a twelve month period; currently it’s only one.

  3. Employers will be required to discuss what flexible working arrangements may work for them, where the original request isn’t agreed; this isn’t a requirement currently but we always encourage our clients to do this.

As soon as the timetable for the changes is released, we’ll let you know.
